This year
marks the 25th birthday of Chesterbrook!
To commemorate this very special milestone,
the Chesterbrook Civic Association (CCA), in collaboration
with Kramont Realty Trust, held a wet and wild Community
Birthday Party on Saturday, June 7, 2003, at the Chesterbrook
Village Shopping Center.
The event involved representatives from throughout
Tredyffrin Township, and included activities, fun and games
for people of all ages. Although it rained that day, the
weather did not deter an estimated 600 adults and children
from coming out to socialize with their neighbors, have
a slice of birthday cake, and partake of the fun Robin Bond,
Esq., President of the Chesterbrook Civic Association, declared
the event a huge success, and said, “This was a way
for the Civic Association to help celebrate and enhance
the quality of life in our community, and we’re thrilled
with the positive feedback we received from so many people
who told us how much they enjoyed themselves. It validates
that Chesterbrook has a great deal to offer for people of
all ages.”
Entertainment consisted of a huge Moonbounce
- which the children gleefully turned into a water slide
- a sports arena, ring toss, can smash, basketball, and
wacky wire games. Children received free prizes just for
playing. Youth volunteers Michael Bond, Kevin Miller, Alanna
Miller, Liz Bond, Alex Klebe, Kristen Bonstingl, Brianna
Seapy, Brian Stanton, Jenny Powell and Kelsey Fitzgerald
helped Scoutmaster David Miller and Boy Scout Troop 181
run the games, as well as assisted Donna McCarty with the
hair streaking and temporary tattoos.
Music by a Dixieland Band kept the mood upbeat,
and sidewalk sales and food specials by the shopping center
merchants provided a chance to sample many treats. The merchants
also contributed 28 fabulous prizes for a raffle to benefit
the work of the Chesterbrook Civic Association.
Safety was a prominent theme at the event,
with free child safety fingerprinting by REACT, and digital
photographs for child identification by M.I.L.K. The Tredyffrin
Township Police Department, under the direction of Community
Policing Officer Larry Meoli, conducted a free bicycle safety
clinic for kids under age 11 within some indoor space made
available by Kramont. Officer Middleton brought his canine
partner Max for a very popular visit, and showed a large
audience of on-lookers how Max can detect both drugs and
explosives, as well as use his strength and skill to take
down perpetrators of crime. Children and adults got to examine
both the police department’s all-terrain vehicle,
as well as the Berwyn Fire Company’s truck.
State Representative Carole Rubley and Tredyffrin
Township Supervisor, Judy DiFilippo were present to meet
and greet constituents, as was Planning Commission member
Larry Siegel. The AARP provided a table of Information and
available services for seniors, and Dr. Donald Zeller of
Chesterbrook Family Medicine was on hand to perform free
blood pressure checks. The CCA gave out free brochures and
maps about township services, recreation, and other info
rmation. Free 25th anniversary commemorative T-shirts were
given out by CCA and Kramont to the first 500 attendees.
Event organizers were Maureen Brennan-Miller,
CCA Vice President, Nigel and Diane Jones, Gregg Matzner,
CCA Secretary, Robin Bond, and Kramont representatives Jerry
Walsh and Mitchell Brown. Other volunteers included Mary
Bruce, Barb Powell, Chris and Pete Stanton, Bill McCloskey,
Michael Zatuchni, Brett Furman, Travis Eldridge, Ruth and
Howard Kravitz, Angie Paulin, Marie Swift, Barbara Tuft,
